Hunger Games

Katniss Everdeenová žije s matkou a mladší sestrou Prim v chudém dvanáctém kraji. Nebýt lovu zvěři za hranicemi kraje, na který chodí se svým nejlepší přítem Hurikánem a který je proti zákonu, jen stěží by dokázali přežít. Přichází rok, kdy je Prim dvanáct let a je tak automaticky zařazena do losování splátců do dalšího ročníku Hladových her. Přestože je její jméno na jediném lístečku, je vybrána jako splátkyně za dvanáctý kraj. Katniss, která sestřičku vždy chránila, se v návalu zoufalství přihlásí jako dobrovolnice a převezme její místo. To ovšem ještě netuší, že se jejím soupeřem, splátcem dvanáctého kraje z řad chlapců, stane Peeta Mellark – pekařův syn, který jí v minulosti zachránil před smrtí hladem. Pravidla Kapitolu jsou ale neoblomná a tak se Katniss a Peeta musí vydat společně do arény. Když při rozhovoru před začátkem her Peeta prohlásí, že je do Katniss zamilovaný, začíná tak hra na “milence pronásledované osudem”, při které Katniss místy ztrácí přehled, co z toho je strategií k přežití a co skutečné city.

Katniss Everdeen lives with her mother and a younger sister Prim in poor twelve district. Without hunting beyoned the borders of the region, where she use to go with her best friend Hurricane, and that is against the law, they could just barely survive. Now Prim is twelve years old so she’s automatically entered into a draw of the tributes for the next year of the Hunger Games. Altough her name is written ther just once, she’s chosen as a tribute for the district twelve. Katniss, that always used to protect her little siter, in the surge of despair decide to log in as a volunteer and take her place. But she doesn’t already know that the tribute from boys, is Peeta Mellar – baker’s son that saved her life in the past from the starvation. But the rules of the Capitol are adamant and Katniss and Peeta have to go to the arena together. When Peeta says in the interview before the Games, that he is in love with Katniss, the game of “Star-crossed lovers” and sometimes Katniss isn’t able to distinguish the strategy of survival from the real feelings.

REVIEW:  Před začátkem čtení knihy jsem viděla první dva díly filmu, který mě neskutečně okouzlil jak nápadem a dějem příběhu, tak obsazením hlavních rolí. Ihned po sléhnutí filmu jsem se začala shánět po knize. První díl mě zaujal hned v prvních stránkách. Přestože jsem věděla, jak se bude ubírat děj dál, četla jsem knihu s napětím a očekáváním. Líbil se mi výrazný kontrast mezi krvavým líčením bojů v aréně a romantickými scénami, které byly ještě zajímavější tím, že člověk občas přemýšlel, co je součastí hry a co je skutečné.

Befire reading the book, I’ve seen the first two movies, that completely charmed me by the idea and plot of the story and also by the main roles cast. Immediately after watching the movie, I started looking for the book. The first episode has taken me since the first few pages. Alotugh I knew, how the plot will continue, I still read the book with tension and expectation. I liked the significat difference between bloody describing the fights in arena and the romantic scenes, that were even more interesting because you sometimes have to think about what is just a game and what is real.

 

Hunger Games: Catching Fire

Po překvapivém společném vítězství Katniss a Peety v 74. ročníku Hladových her se začíná o “dívku v plamenech”zajímat sám prezident Snow, podle něhož představuje Katniss jiskru, která může zažehnout touhu krajů po povstání proti Kapitolu. Katniss tak přes svůj odpor musí pokračovat s Peetou ve hře  na zamilovaný pár, ani to ale prezidentovi nepřipadá dostatečné a Katniss považuje za příliš nebezpečnou. 

Sedmdesáté páté hry, současně také třetí “čtvrtohry”, přinášející nová pravidla – splátci z jednotlivých krajů jsou vybrání z vítězů minulých ročníků. Dvanátý kraj měl za celou historii Hladových her pouhé tři vítěze – Katiss, Peetu a Haymitche, jejich trenéra z předchozího ročníku. Do arény jsou vybráni Katniss a Haymitch, za kterého se okamžitě Peeta nabízí jako dobrovolník. Tentokrát jsou pravidla jasná a hry mohou mít jen jediného vítěze – oba jsou však rozhodnutí toho druhého chránit za cenu vlastní smrti.

After suprising common victory of Katniss and Peeta in 74th year of the Hunger Games, president Snow personally starts to focus on the “girl in fire” and he thinks that Katniss is like a spark that can ignite a desire for rebellion of districts against the Capitol. So Katniss have to act like the crushed girl despite her resistance. But Snow still doesn’t| think it’s enough and he thinks Katniss is too dangerous.

Seventy-fiveth games, at the same time the ” third quarter quell”, brings new rules – tributes from the single disctricts will be chosen from the previous winners of the past years. Disctrict twelve had just three winners during all the history of the Hunger Games – Katniss, Peeta and Haymitch, their coach from the previous year. Katniss and Haymitch are chosen to the arena, but Peeta immediately sing in as a volunteer. This time, the rules are clear and the Games can have only one winner – both of them are decided to protect the other one, at the cots of their own death.

REVIEW: Druhý díl se mi z celé trilogie líbil nejvíc. Opět nepostrádal akční scény plné napětí, ani zamilované dojemné okamžiky. Co se mi na tomto dílu vážně líbilo, byly celkově postavy splátců ve čtvrtohrách, které byly mnohem barvitěji vylíčeny než splátci v předchozím ročníku. Se spoustou z nich se tu blíže seznamujete a je vám líto téměř každého, kdo zemře. Také  bylo zajímavé sledovat vnitřní boj Katniss, která stále nedokáže rozlišit její city s Peetovi a Hurikánovi.

The second episode seems as the best part of the whole trilogy. It didn’t miss the cation scenes full of tension and even love touching moments again. What I really loved about this part, where the characters of the tributues, that were much better portrayed than the tributes from the previous year. You get to know then closer and you are sorry about almost each additional death tribute. It was also very interesting to watch the inside fight of Katniss, that still can’t recognize her feelings for Peeta and for Hurricane.

Hunger Games: Mockinjay

Ve většině krajů už naplno vypuklo povstání. Ulice jsou plné zbraní, krve a násilí. Z hráčů třetích čtvrtoher zachránili pouze Katniss, Finicka a Johannu, ostatní jsou mrtví nebo se dostali do zajetí kapitolu. Katniss přijímá svou roli reprodrozda, vůdce a ikony povstání na oplátku za splnění několika jejich podmínek, včetně pravomoci osobně zabít preditenta Snowa a faktu, že Peeta – který se stal pod tlakem mučení v Kapitolu zrádcem – zůstane v bezpečí a nikdo mu neublíží. Mezitím Katniss a povstalci třináctky dobývají ostatní kraje a chystají se na svržení Kapitolu … 

In most of the districts, the rebellion broke out. Streets are full of guns, blood and violende. From the third quarter quell, just Katniss, Finick and Johanna were saved. All other players are death or in the captivity of the Capitol. Katniss agree to take her role of the mockingjay, the leader and the icone of the rebellion, in return for fulfillment of her conditions – including the power to personally kill president Snow and also the fact, that Peeta – that became a traitor under the pressure of torture of Capitol – will stay save and nobody will hurt him. Meanwhile, Katniss and the rebels from the thirteen conquer other districts and they are prepairing to overthrow the Capitol …

REVIEW: Poslední díl série pro mě byl překvapením, protože jsem jako u jediného nevěděla, jak dopadne. Za prvé jsem se tu tedy dočkala konečně vysvětlení a pokračování otevřeného konce předchozího dílu. Co mě trochu zklamalo, bylo to, že postava Peety se tu víc objevuje až zhruba za půlkou. Taky mi místy děj nepřišel tak napínavý jako v předešlých dvou dílech, kde byl příběh jasně rozdělený do doby příprav před hrami, samotného souboje v aréně a situaci po skončení. V Mockingjay šlo víceméně celou dobu o válku krajů s Kapitolem. Co ale musím skutečně ocenit a pochválit, je konec, který je vážně krásný. Není ani trochu zdlouhavý, ale přesto je v něm odpověď na kterou čekají čtenáři od začátku knížky – Katnissin výběr budoucího partnera.

The last episode of the serie meant suprise for me, becaucause it was the only episode, I didn’t know how will it end. First I finally found out the explanation and continuaton of the opened end of the previous episode. What dissapointed me a bit, was the fact that the character of Peeta didn’t appear in the plot until the second half of the book. Also I found the plot maybe a bit less thrilling than the previous episodes, where the plot was clearly parted to the time before games, games in the are on their own and the situation after them. In Mockingjay, it was most of the time just about the war of districts against the Capitol. But what I have to really appreciate and commend, is the end, that’s really very beautiful. Altough it’s not lengthy, there is the answer what all the reader are waiting for – Katniss’s choice of the future partner.

 Kdybych měla trilogii zhodnotit celkově jako jednu knihu, společně s Hvězdy nám nepřály je to z mého pohledu nejlepší kniha kterou jsem četla. Stejně tak film se okamžitě stal jedním z mých favoritů, Josh Hutcherson mým největším crushem a Peeta Mellark (společně s Gusem Watersem) mým idolem dokonalosti :’)

If I should have rate the trilogy overall as one book, it’s together with The Fault in Out Stars the best book I’ve ever read. Same way as the movie, that immediatelly became one of my favorites, Josh Hutcherson my biggest crush and Peeta Mellark (together with Gus Waters) my idol of perfection :’)
